I got every platinum trophy for all of the god of war games available on ps3 and ps4. That should be enough preparation for Ragnarok.

Norse Weapons that could appear in GOW5

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 12:48 PM PDT

Norse Mythology is filled to the brim with fascinating relics, each with their own stories.

I wouldn't put it past Cory Barlog to bring in a lesser-known mythical weapon from Norse mythology into the light for the next installment in the series - if he hasn't already sneaked them in. Here are some important ones to consider from lore:

    Gungnir (spear)

Gungnir, also called The Swaying One, is the great spear that belonged to Odin himself. Loki originally acquires the spear from the dwarves, and it was eventually used by Odin to begin the Aesir-Vanir War.

Properties: the runes carved on the spear's tip grant it and the one bearing it great accuracy and strength. But the spear itself is also perfectly balanced, and it can strike the target of the bearer, no matter their personal strength or even their skill.

    Gram (great sword)

Sigurd - the Hercules of the Norse - used Gram to killed the great dragon Fafnir. A very ornate and powerful blade, it was depicted in many legends with various heros, including Sigmund.

Properties: All decked in gold and gleaming bright, downed Fenrir in one blow.

    Dáinsleif (sword)

Dainsleif also belonged to a great Norse hero, King Hogni. This sword is pivotal in Snorri Snurlson's text Hjaðningavíg which discusses the never-ending battle between the king and his rival, Heoinn - a prince of another tribe, who abducted Hogni's daughter, Hildr. The story bears a lot of similarities to The Iliad, which tells of the great Greek-Trojan war.

Properties: Dainsleif gives its victims wounds that never heal, and once it has been loosed from its scabbard, it must kill a man.

    Hǫfuð (great sword)

Hǫfuð was wielded by Heimdallr, the guardian of the Bifrost and the herald of Ragnarok. Not a lot is known about Hǫfuð, other than the fact that its name means, 'Man-head.' Heimdallr's head has a lot of mythical associations, so it could be that there was once a lot about there about Hǫfuð that is simply lost to time.

    Laevateinn (staff)

Laevateinn is another interesting weapon that we don't know a lot about. Allow me to explain: the name Laevatienn comes from a kenning, or Norse poetic phrase, 'damage-twig.'

Laevateinn is said to be housed in Hel, the Norse underworld, per the poem Fjölsvinnsmál:

    Tell me, Fiölsvith! etc.

    whether there be any weapon,

    before which Vidofnir may

    fall to Hel´s abode?

    Hævatein the twig is named,

    and Lopt plucked it,

down by the gate of Death.

In an iron chest it lies

    with Sinmoera,

and is with nine strong locks secured

Properties: Now, from this small verse, we can somewhat guess that Laevateinn is no sword or axe, but actually a magic staff. We can also guess because of its relationship with Loki (or Lopt), that this particular one might be made from the same mistletoe that rendered Baldur vulnerable. The late scholar Henry Adams Bellows was the first to posit this.

    Sumarbrander aka Freyr's sword

This is something of an honorable mention because some scholars think that Laevateinn and Freyr's unnamed sword are one and the same. But they don't exactly sound alike. If you're uncertain, Freyr is the brother of Freya, and is the Norse god of sunshine, summer, and fair weather.

Properties: Cool thing about his sword is that it is able to literally fight on its own. Unfortunately for Freyr, he kind of bargained this blade away to Skinir. While this didn't exactly destroy Freyr's martial capabilities (he was able to fight the giant Beli off with an antler), it will have drastic consequences come Ragnarok.

Freyr is fated to die at the hands of Sutr, the fire giant. The blade that Sutr will wield in this final fight is often called, 'the sword of the gods.' Which sounds cool. But it's also kind of the name of Freyr's blade, leading scholars to think that Freyr will be slain by the magnificent sword he once bargained away.

Are there any you would like to see that aren't listed here?

Was rewatching the final battle on YouTube and I noticed a bird(I thought was a rock) behind the giant. Only a frame, can hardly catch it. Don't know if this was an ordinary bird or something else. I'll let you guys be the judge of it.

What if we get some old weapons back

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 08:05 AM PDT

Now in gow 3 Zeus destroyed Kratos's weapons right? Well imagine going back in the greek realm for a lvl or 2 and gathering pieces of the Caestus, the Nemesis Whip and all that, then you take them back to brok and sindri to fix em up and give em a norse touch. Wouldn't it be awsome?

How do the Blades of Chaos work?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 01:12 AM PDT

I know how they where made and how Kratos got them, but I can't really find anything on how they actually work. Are the chains magical since they can extend so much? Can the blades be used without the chains if Kratos would want to? Does he have to hook the blades to the chains every time he uses them? (Since they are not connected to the chains when he wears the blades on his back).

What could be the Potential Boss Fights in Ragnarok?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 08:25 AM PDT

What are the boss fights you would expect in Ragnarok? From the current game weve seen so far, there will be Thor, Freya, Hræsvelgr (Maybe) and Odin at the end.

What are the other characters in Norse Mythology you would want to go against in the upcoming game?? Will we fight with the Valkyries again or who could replace them?

I tried to create again a list of new characters that could appear in the new GoW. Also, I imagine that some characters and creatures could be only background characters.

I was playing through New Game Plus and this happened during the Baldur fight

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 01:49 AM PDT

Others have said the same thing, but I'm really impressed with God of War on the PS5.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 07:41 AM PDT

I keep seeing screenshots in photo mode that show off the game, but those aren't really doing the game justice. This is my 4th play through of the game, all previous runs were on my PS4 Pro. The frame rate is an obvious benefit, but the textures and lighting are what's getting me the most. I always played it at 1080p before, because I wanted better frame rates. Having the polish of 4K (even with checkerboarding) while getting a consistent 60FPS just looks fantastic.

I know that there isn't any ray tracing in this game, and it hasn't been re-rendered, but I do feel like the lighting has a bit more shine to it. The fight with Balder in the beginning looked stunning. All of the blue on his arms was definitely brighter, and the sky in the background was night and bright. Seems to me like the PS5 is just better at processing HDR than the PS4 Pro.

I only played until the first meeting with Brok last night, but I can't wait to play through the whole thing again. The irony with this console is I haven't even played a whole lot of PS5 exclusive games. I did Spider-Man remastered for a few hours, but then I jumped back in to Ghost of Tsushima, and now God of War. One could argue that I didn't even buy this thing for the new games, but to replay my old favorites. This thing is amazing, and I definitely don't regret the purchase.

Now if only Horizon Zero Dawn would get a PS5 patch...

God of War fanatic needs your help.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 06:33 AM PDT

Hello guys! A couple of time ago, I loaned my precious God of War day one edition to one my friends. He gave me back the disc but he had lost the case(the one with Kratos fighting a troll) I was heartbroken to be honest. I really loved it since it's a limited edition and I am a fanatic of God of War. I have been desperately trying to find a new one with no success since it's very rare. I cannot buy a new copy of the game in Amazon cause I live in Albania and there are extra fees for shipping. Do you have any idea how I can find a new one ? Just the case or maybe a used disc with the same day one edition case ? I am so fucking sad. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You know what would be absolutely great to see in Ragnarok...

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 07:05 PM PDT

Fighting ALONGSIDE Baldur. In norse mythology even though Baldur's death triggers ragnarok, he is eventually brought back to life.

GoW usually spins and remixes things but it would be awesome to find Baldur in Hel, not a vision but actually him. And have him be thankful to Kratos and Atreus for breaking his curse followed by a fighting sequence with Baldur backing you up.

Hope Cory Barlog sees this lol what do you guys think about Baldur?
