God of War Origin games (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta) impressions Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:57 AM PDT Developed by Ready at Dawn, the studio that later made The Order: 1886, these two games are a portable spin-off duology of the God of War franchise. While they may look like thorwaway cash grabs, they play quite a central roles within the series, filling the missing links between the main installments and developing Kratos's character further. They were written by the creators of the main games, like David Jaffe and Cory Barlog. There are many PSP spin-off games to the popular series that were forgotten, like Resistance: Retributions, Daxter, and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Medal of Honor: Heroes, but God of War PSP games were fortunate enough to be remastered and continued to live on. I have played the first game, and in preparation to play God of War 2, I have played the Origin spin-off games to get the full gist of the story and the world. One technical problem for the remasters is the audio issue. There is no chain swing or the damage sound effects. The in-game voice is so low that it is almost impossible to hear their dialogue. Odd that other people seem to not have this problem, so it must be something to do with my copy. Regardless, I was able to play the games still. Chains of Olympus is the first spin-off released in 2008 and works as a prequel to the first game. Although I have not played God of War 2 yet, I can already sense there are clear improvements borrowed from the sequel. The combat is snappier than 1. There is a little slow-mo during certain combat moves. There are fewer animation delays, allowing the player to evade and block easily. Most hits were my fault. Cutscenes from PSP games are higher quality than the first game's cutscenes. There are little to no frustrating platforming and puzzles, which is a huge plus. The downside is that exploration is significantly worse. The first game levels had semi-Zelda dungeon design that forced the player to navigate through the large areas with backtrackings. I had to look for collectibles. For the spin-offs, likely due to the PSP limitation, levels are too small and linear with fewer optional areas. Collectibles are so easily found. The paths are too straightforward and require no creative thinking in navigation. The combat is far easier than the first game. In 1, there were several parts I died several times and forced me to fight enemies in a different way. In Chains of Olympus, I breezed through most combat encounters with no problem. The story feels both integral to Kratos's characterization while feeling like a filler. Since this was at the point when Kratos was still Ares's servant, I expected to see conflict as Kratos follows his orders but starts turning on him, but Ares is not in the story. Instead, Athena orders you to fight some bad god, and I guess he does that. The main plot regarding some evil god from destroying the world is uninteresting. The main villain gets introduced too late and we barely know about her. However, the emotional crux regarding Kratos's daughter makes up for it. This is the part that felt like it is expanding the Greek tragedy angle of the first game. There is a surreal section at the climax where you let go of your daughter and regain your abilities as you slaughter the ghosts on the field. Moments like this could have been a simple cutscene, but they decided to tell this through the gameplay, and it is great. The sequel, Ghost of Sparta, is set between 1 and 2. Chains of Olympus already looked incredible for PSP, but Ghost of Sparta looks better than the majority of PS2 games. Some set-pieces look better than God of War 1. It is an incredible technical feat and I have no idea how they managed to pull this off. On gameplay, it is pretty much the same but better. As soon as the game begins, the player has several upgrades like swimming and moves like Olympus Ascension. There are more enemies and bosses to fight. The magic abilities are far easier to use. Less heavy on the puzzles and platforming, but more on the action. Thera's Bane is a new addition that enhances the attack damage with fire, which is a cool addition. However, the story is the weakest one so far. The plot concerns about Kratos's journey to find his long lost brother, Deimos. Kratos finds him and they fight for two minutes and unite together to fight the real villain. So, it is basically Uncharted 4 but done poorly. Considering how the game keeps showing the flashbacks, I expected something more to their relationship. Something more genuine and shocking, maybe Kratos has done an unforgivable deed to his brother or vice-versa. No, Kratos was just mean to him. What is so jarring is that Deimos gets introduced at the third act and dies like 15 minutes after. Uncharted 4 showed Nate journeying with Sam for most of the game, so when an emotional climax between their relationship hits, the player also feels it. In Ghost of Sparta, there is no time to get to know Deimos's character. The story would have been far stronger if the game had Kratos journeying with Deimos from the second act, interacting with each other, expressing their remorse and guilt. Also, the plot really feels like a filler. Atlantis' destruction feels meaningless and has no bearing in the overall plot. King Midas is in the story and he does... nothing. Locations feel like they were loosely connected to each other with no cohesiveness. There is no moment that sticks out of my mind after playing it, except for the moment where Kratos meets his mother again. A lot of integral story details were locked behind the post-game bonuses, and I have no idea why they did this. Chains of Olympus is very good, on par with the first game. Ghost of Sparta is decent. It is unfortunate that Ready at Dawn shat themselves with The Order: 1886 when they have shown to be capable of making great games. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:04 AM PDT I am new to PS4 and started with GoW4. Seeing many people here are real passionate so apologies for missing first three. I am at 14% completion. With alfheim 80% done, midgard 48% and muspelheim only 1 trial done. The serpents horn is not interactive for me. Whenever I reach to that, compass shows it as my Destination but interaction is disabled. What do I need to do? Is it the Armor? Realm tear encounters? Chests? Any help will be appreciated. Posted: 05 Jun 2020 07:07 AM PDT Not sure if this has been noticed here before , so forgive me if this is a re post . I have been playing the game pretty consistently throughout the past two years and today fighting Sigrun I heard some dialogue during the fight I've never heard. So sigrun hits me with a wing swing and Atreus yells : Are you still with me??? Kratos: My pain is not your concern!! Just thought it was an amazing exchange, really felt like I was in the heat of battle. Props to Sony Santa Monica for the little things. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Jun 2020 01:21 PM PDT People seem to be confused about Kratos' actual height. In the old games, Kratos is 2.44m, and 8'0 tall. In the latest installment, Kratos is 1.98m, and 6'6 tall. And no, him and Freya are clearly not the same height, Kratos is about a whole inch taller Face to Face Also, Thor is about 6'8, and Magni is about 7'2-7'4. And yes, Thor CAN be shorter than Magni, since he's 50% God 50% Giant. Magni's mother is a giant, which makes him 75% Giant 25% God. Just wanted to clear things up :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jun 2020 09:18 PM PDT Most of the posts i read here say that the next game will be ragnarok. but i think that it will be between the GOW4 and ragnarok ,because brok said the winter will last for 3 years before ragnarok so i think the next game will be set in that time [link] [comments]
