Anybody else have the exile (beginning) armor set equip automatically when you continue your game. Is there a reason this happens or is it a bug.

    Atlas holding the "World"

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 08:18 PM PST

Currently replaying God Of War 2 on Titan mode (by the way, Theseus is a bloody nightmare), and I've just arrived at Atlas. So apparently according to a developer, the Underworld is infinite in size. I'm willing to accept that it's only "infinite" due to magic and some sort of loop to trick any who enter. However, Atlas has got me in a bit of conundrum.

From multiple pieces of dialogue in God Of War (2018), both Mimir and Kratos state that they simply traveled to the Norse realm. So my simple question is if this is true, is Atlas really holding "the world"? If he is just holding the gigantic area that the Greek mythology dwells, then wouldn't that mean Greece is just on a giant disc, and if you walked to the edge, you would have to jump over the Underworld? I haven't seen any developers talk about this, and I doubt it'll be relevant in the upcoming sequel, so does anyone have any input?

Also first post, so greetings laddys!

I know there's a streamer out there, who did it. But i want to know if anyone here did it. And if you done it, is it a fun challenge? Is it doable(and fun) on GMGOW?

(Spoilers) I kind of want it to be Atreus who takes down Odin, rather than Kratos.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 02:01 PM PST

So at the end of GoW we find out Atreus is actually Loki. And I like that. Given his gift with languages, his connection to the World Serpent, his skill with languages (perfect for a silver-tongue) his kinship with animals (always wanting to free trapped beasts, being sad about having to kill wolves, etc...) and how one the first things he does upon finding out he's a god is ask if he'll be able to turn into animals one day, Atreus as Loki makes pretty good sense, and I'm looking forward to what they go on to do with the character.

And that got me thinking about how, in God of War, one of the consequences of flipping the usual morality of the Norse Pantheon is making Odin seem a lot like Loki. The way Odin is portrayed in this game is actually pretty similar to my vague memories of how Loki is portrayed in the old myths; a magical, half-mad trickster not above using lies and deceit to get his way. The way many of Odin stories end with him being 'bested' by another (the stone mason's son winning the wager, Mimir tricking him with the 'Well of Wisdom) also seems to echo how often Loki's schemes don't go his way in the original mythology; I find it particular telling how they took the story of Hrimthur the stone mason, whose original myth involves either Loki's trickery or folly (arguably both, though I can't quite remember if he originally intended the Aesir to lose the wager or not), and made it all about Odin being duped instead. Odin's connection to his ravens could even be made to mirror Loki's more general connection to animals.

The difference between being the god of lies and the god of wisdom, it seems, is who is telling the story. And this link between how Loki is commonly portrayed in Norse mythology and how Odin is portrayed in God of War is really what makes me want Atreus to be the one who has to bring him down.

We know from that one ending cut scene that the fight between Kratos and Thor is going to take place years later. That's plenty of time for Atreus to grow up and develop his powers. And I can easily see an adult Loki's exploits - his battles, adventures, and victories - being twisted by Aesir propaganda into the stories we read today, further cementing the similarities between Odin and Loki.

And most importantly I think that the similarities between Thor and Kratos are simply too good to be wasted on anything but the final fight of Kratos's career. That is really the main motivation for this theory - we know from the mural that Kratos could be dying in the sequel, and for his final act to be taking down Thor would be, in my opinion, almost perfect story-telling. Thor is basically a carbon copy of Kratos at his worst - a blood thirsty maniac motivated by nothing but violence, glory, and his own personal agenda, caring little about the wanton destruction he leaves in his wake. The Giants probably saw Thor the same way the Greek Gods saw Kratos during his roaring rampage of revenge - a genocidal maniac leaving nothing but senseless slaughter in his wake. It's everything I like about my Loki-Odin idea, but clearer and much better supported by the game. Kratos vs. Thor is the battle we've all been waiting for, and I think it would be best to have it be Kratos's last battle,

Also I'm really looking forward to a chance to play as Loki. Playing a Kratos is all about collecting, mastering and upgrading weapons - maybe Loki would be more about learning and upgrading different animal shapes he can turn into? I wouldn't say the possibilities are endless, but I am pretty interested in the ones I can imagine.

So I guess my theory would basically go like this: The Aesir capture a grown up Atreus, echoing back to the original myth of Loki being bound until Ragnarok. Kratos goes on one last rampage that ends with him killing Thor, freeing Atreus and then dying himself. And then the next segment of that game, or its sequel, is all about Loki gearing up to take down Asgard, kill Odin, and bring about Ragnarok. Kratos takes down the primary physical Aesir threat, and then his much more magical son focuses on killing the evil wizard that is Odin.

I'm not saying this is exactly how the next few games are going to go. But it is how I want the next few games to go.

    Sentimental to Advari?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 07:52 PM PST

For the mission where you help Brok find Advari's hammer, Deus Ex Malachite, why do you think Kratos declined his reward in favour of having a useless ring?

I had originally Googled why Brok, Atreus and Kratos would be so sentimental about the ring/soul, as there's never been even a inkling of them being sentimental or caring for anything other than the mothers ashes throughout the entirety of the game.

Seemed very out of character for Kratos to spend the whole game telling Atreus to never help anyone without payment/reward, then to turn around and decline said reward in favour of a useless, annoying ring that only distracts and lies to Atreus.

There was another thread about this subject, but Reddit archives pretty much everything. So I'll just start a new thread for people who didnt get a chance to discuss said topic in the archived thread.
