I reimagined Kratos in Chinese Mythology (concept art). It's a big picture, so zoom in for details!

Finally beat Sigrun for the platinum. This game is so, so good in 60fps on PS5!

HDR makes fire coming from weapon extremely bright red instead of orange?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:05 PM PST

In SDR there are zero issues, everything looks natural and amazing.

But in HDR the problems start. At first sight it looks better, colors pop, bright areas are brighter, dark areas are darker, overall it looks just much better. Until there's a light source of any kind. ESPECIALLY the fire from the blades.

Not only does the fire of the blades become completelely red (and a little darkpink), instead of the normal orange, it also loses its lighting effects, like bloom, warmth, most reflections.

I cant take a screenshot cause HDR screenshots look nothing like what I'm seeing, the best I can do is take pictures with my shitty phone:

    SDR:

I'll admit it's really not as clear as I hoped it would be in these pictures. The differences I'm describing are WAY more pronounced irl compared to these pictures.

As you can hopefully see, the fire in SDR has a nice warm glowing effect across the entire room. Not sure if it's called "bloom" or "warmth" or "reflections" or something else, but you can see what I mean.

    HDR:

In HDR the fire itself becomes way brighter, which is good, but also completely red with a little darkpink instead of orange (I'm aware you cant really see it in the pic but irl it looks COMPLETELY red with darkpink , vs the normal orange fire from SDR), and most importantly, it loses a whole bunch all the effects from the lighting.

There's a fire, but the room is lacking that "glow", or "warmth".

It's the exact same with all other non combat fire sources, like torches, candles, etc, although they keep their normal orange color in HDR, but still lose all the lighting effects.

Is HDR supposed to be like this? Or am I doing something wrong?

I'm playing on an LG Oled C9, HD ULTRA DEEP COLOR and instant game response both on, with picture mode set to game mode in both SDR and HDR. These problems persist with standard HDR settings and also after I tried messing with all kinds of settings like contrast, brightness, color warmth, HDR calibration in ps4 settings, nothing helps (and I resetted it all back to default after hours of testing).

Side note: In movies the HDR looks completely fine and amazing with zero issues what so ever. It's ONLY in games, also EVERY game that I tried in HDR had the same problem with lighting effects being mostly or completely absent in HDR.

    Kratos is the son of...?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:29 PM PST

The first time Kratos go to Hel, without his son, he see Oden in the Sky and call him "father", then Mimir asked him about it. Isn't Zeus supposed to be his father ? Did i get something wrong? (like it was Zeus who appeared and i confused him with Oden?)

    Freya

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 02:38 PM PST

So after playing the campaign of God of war 4, after you kill baldur for the final time Freya insists that she will harm kratos in the quote "I will rain down every agony, every violation imaginable, upon you... I will parade your cold body from every corner, of every realm, and feed your soul to the vilest filth in Hel, that is my promise!". I think God of war ragnarok would be perfect to feature Freya as a villain, trying to avenge her son.
