Finally beat God of War (2018)!! My thoughts

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 04:57 AM PST

Man this game is glorious!! While I don't think I can give it the title of best story in the series since I think the story in the first game is also incredible, or maybe I'm just biased, it was also fantastic from start to finish.

It has most likely the most beautiful locales I've seen in a game, or it's definitely up there. I thought traversing the different realms (which are all incredibly gorgeous, however I think I prefer Midgard the most, I don't know why) added so much to the game, I specifically loved that Muspelheim and Niflheim were combat centric realms, Muspelheim being a callback to the challenges in previous God of War games and Niflheim being a reference to Bloodborne's Chalice dungeons. Solving puzzles, platforming seeing different locales, basically the adventure part was always a huge part of the series and I'm glad that this was not forgotten in this entry.

I thought the bosses were maybe a weak link, however, (brace yourselves for this unpopular opinion I think) I thought that Sigrun; the Queen of Valkyries was an incredible fight!! I loved it so, SO much. The different fights with the Valkyries are all awesome and all of them have similar moves with some differences (they also give you great rewards and pretty awesome loot😍), and Sigrun at the end combined all of their moves and had double the health bar!!!, which I think is ballsy by the developers and made for a super fun fight. The first time I fought her I only took off 2 or 3 health bars and thought that it was impossible. However I persevered and killed her after an hour straight of trying with my heart beating so quickly, it was definitely an incredibly memorable experience.

The gameplay also is fun, I also got used to the new combat system pretty quickly, the Executioner's Cleave was a move that I don't think I'll ever get tired of, it's almost right up there with the Stinger (Devil May Cry) and a tier below Izuna Drop (Ninja Gaiden) for me. Although the gameplay starts off pretty repetitively, at least on hard mode, with the enemies being damage sponges and where you don't have a lot of moves and you need a lot of experience to unlock them. Yeah at the start I thought the combat was awful. But after unlocking all the moves and learning how to use the BOY's moves properly the combat is way more fun now.

I think the Metroidvania style gameplay makes for my favorite style of discovering secrets and this was implemented so well in the game. Discovering the different secrets, lore stones, finding all the different chests was so much fun to do. The side activities, favors as they're called in here all had you exploring some amazing new locales and I always had fun doing them.

So yeah as a die hard fan of the entire series, I have now platinumed all the God of War games and am proud to say that the newest addition is a worthy addition to this amazing series. I loved the game!! Would love to hear your guys' opinion and to know where you think this game ranks for you in the franchise. I personally rank the entire original trilogy above this one game alone, but that's maybe unfair since I'm comparing 1 game to 3. Also should I try the Give Me God Of War Mode? I have completed every other game in the series in the highest difficulty, how would you say this ranks alongside them?

Edit: Maybe it's a shame that you only kill one god in this game, but that's exactly how it was in the first game of the original trilogy as well, so more killing gods in the next installments hopefully.

    THEORY ON RAGNARÖK

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 07:03 AM PST

My theory on Ragnarök is when Thor faces the serpent, he will kill the serpent, then Kratos will kill Thor since Thor gets poisoned by it OR Kratos will kill Thor and the serpent will survive Ragnarök or will get killed by another god which I doubt Bc the serpent has the most beef with Thor and Thor will most likely be killed by Kratos and magni, Modi, and Baldur are already dead, the gods who are related to Thor

    GOW 1 & 2 PS5 remasters

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 10:48 AM PST

Just some wishful thinking on my part here but just imagine if both PS2 games were to get a fully fleshed remaster for the PS5. Demon's Souls levels of remaster.

Bluepoint did the HD collection for PS3 already but seeing how the worked with Shadow of the colossus twice in the past I don't think it's too far fetched. Imagine what they could achieve with the full power of the PS5, the DualSense, etc.

How do I beat the Boss Hydra

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 08:22 AM PST

I've already dropped the things on the two smaller heads, but I'm having trouble with the boss head. I can beat it to the point of a minigame, but even though I keep on pressing O, It always bashes me against the mast. I've also tried holding the O button, but nothings working. What should I do?

    Kratos' Lessons

    Posted: 11 Nov 2020 12:09 AM PST

I'm very glad that I stumbled upon this franchise when I was like 5. At first I was afraid on how horrible and gory this series started and never once I regretted enjoying violence when I was a Boi.

Despite me being 21 now(basically a grown up) I still felt like I'm Atreus despite my age. Unlike Kratos my anger is pathological, I get mad easy no matter what worldly element I encounter be it serious or jests. I can't control it and end up saying words that I end up regretting later on. It's because I never tried to change. Reading the comics I saw Kratos' struggle to control his temper as he is in the early part of the game when he raised his voice when Atreus fired his arrow without Kratos' instruction. Just last month I decided to try and be collected just as Kratos' in his journey with Atreus. Yesterday I failed and somewhat lashed out at my friend and I still don't feel remorse for what I said. I thought that this must be what Kratos' trying to overcome all those years just so he could begin to accept himself. As Atreus says "If he tries, I'll try." and I still can't believe a game made me realize how important character is to oneself.

The side quests for this game also provide context from what to expect from the outside world. Almost every side missions are memorable for someone like me who clearly still lacks character. One that stands out to be is when a flame trap activated proceeding with Atreus exclaiming which Kratos' reprimands him by telling him that complaining doesn't help. This told me that I was running away from problems(Which I really am) I always do complain about things not going my way instead of figuring out how to overcome these problems which the cruel world throws at us especially in my age.

Another in which almost similar in context is FEAR. Andvari's ring was stuck to a soul eater in which Atreus openly is afraid of and suggested that they should not fight it. Kratos on the other hand saw this opportunity to teach Atreus to face something he's afraid of. Another character I don't have. I myself am afraid of risks. I cannot do this, I cannot do that. Followed up by a , I don't even need this, why should I do it? It took me up to that mission to realize that I never did confronted my fears with my own consent. I did, at some certain points but I was pushed to it by the world and I did provide, same with Kratos to Atreus. But I still feel fear from what the world expect of me, from what I can do and cannot. But to be fair, I wish I never get rid of this fear. If a fictional 10 year old boy tries his best not to disappoint his father despite underestimating his own capabilities, why should I not? If he can do it, so can we right? So what's stopping us from being better? Ourselves. I just then had an epiphany that no one can go outside their comfort zone alone. The world has to push people outside and it's up to us on how we'll react to certain situations that we find ourselves unpleased.

I feel lucky that I stumbled upon this game without even playing it. Yes I don't have a PS4 but that does not stop me from enjoying the contents that the game provided. Genius is Cory Barlog and his team for highlighting these elements into a game that was painted to be EXTREMELY VIOLENT type of game.

Should I and how would I play God of War: Chains of Olympus before God of War 3?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2020 08:06 PM PST

I'm trying to play through the whole series and I just beat God Of War 2. I read online that the next game I should play is Chains of Olympus but I don't see a way I can play it. I don't own a PSP, and when I bought the God Of War saga the codes to download it were expired. Also, the cliffhanger at the end of GOW 2 makes me want to play 3 to see what happens. If I should play Chains of Olympus before GOW 3 what are some ways I could play it? Thank you.
