God of War on the PS5 is the Best Game Ever Made!

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:30 AM PDT

This was already one of my favorite games of all time back when I played it 3 years ago.

I put 40 hours into it and then I tragically lost all my save data after my PS4 bricked and the saves were corrupted. I spent sooooo long beating myself up for losing those saves.

Fast forward to now and I'm so damn happy that I lost those saves because I saved the enjoyment for the definitive edition.

This game will be replayed over and over and over for the next 50 years believe me when I say that I can't even describe how much of a game changer 60 FPS is. The graphical improvements and reflections are also mind blowing.

I talked to my friend a while ago about how games had good graphics but didn't really feel like real life. I didn't know how to explain what I wanted to say at the time but I was referring to the 30fps cap. Seeing the characters make movements after you press the button shows u that it's just a game and not real life. I think 60fps REALLY feels like real life because it's buttery smooth. This goes for Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man as well

This will be the golden standard that all games are held to in the p5 generation.

The game comes free with PS Plus Collection so every single kid for the next 5 years as the PS5s roll out will be raised on this game and it's gonna change the gaming world forever because of that.

I felt the need to share this with someone and my friends don't care lol!

Revel in the fact that each of you will experience this joy over the next couple years as you get to try it yourself! It feels like this game was made for p5, and the old one was just the beta honestly. The Legacy has only just begun!!!!!

Almost 2 weeks and 381 attempts later, I finally beat my last boss in my god of war ng+. I didn't thought it would take so long. There isn't much space left on my dying count number post it. I was late to this journey but I'm glad I finally started it last month.

I think I'm playing GoW incorrectly -- and the game is encouraging me to do so.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 12:18 PM PDT

I recently started GoW (2018) and am having a good time. The story is interesting, graphics are gorgeous, and the gameplay is fun...

Except I feel like I'm getting a minimized version of the experience. My current progress (minor spoilers!):

    • Just turned level 4
    • Just started the chisel quest
    • 55k xp (after spending 20k just prior to this post).

Thus far, I've never used any amor from chests (crafted instead), I've never upgraded any runic skills except the first ones you get (and have been using those), I don't see any purpose for 50% of the skill tree...

And I think it's because of axe throwing and arrows. Any time I fight "normally," I find myself thinking it would be safer and more efficient to axe throw. Most encounters are me walking backwards, throwing axes, and spamming square (and projectile reflect). Often I find this necessary in fights because some enemies will simply one shot you (Give Me A Challenge, 2 health upgrades).

I just... I feel like I'm missing out on a large chunk of the game. Or I'm playing wrong.

TLDR; What's the dev-intended use for these other armors/runic attacks/etc. (AFAICT they have no purpose), and what's the dev intended combat flow?

I love the story but am growing sick of throwing axes, cheesing AI, and not knowing what I'm supposed to do with all this loot/xp.

How can I adust my playstyle to feel like a God of War?

Platinum in God of War. Finally got to sit down & beat the game/enjoy it since my data was deleted a while back after I put a few hours into it. & wow, it was amazing, had me pumped at times & in my feelings the next. I can’t wait for Ragnarok.

Did they make this game harder with later patches?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:04 AM PDT

I was just playing the Dragon Fafnir freeing quest on Gmgow and the dragon was spamming a shit ton of shock AoEs wherever you were. However, watching Lirik's past streams, none of the dragon freeing things have this attack at all. Are there any similar tweaks and things they later added to make the game more difficult?

For those that have issues with HDR making particle affects like the blade's fire too red/pink here are my findings/observations

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 09:57 AM PDT

I've been tinkering with settings to mitigate the overdone colors and have come to the conclusion that the game's HDR overcompensates for uncalibrated sets at it's default settings by shooting up brightness and contrast. On my calibrated LG CX in game mode with HGIG turned on and the console's HDR patterns done according to HDTVTest

(highly recommended to follow; here's a link where he explains his reasoning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwcSCgW47rY)

I still have bright red/pink fire from the blades and other fire sources in addition to the axe and pickups (health, hacksilver, etc.) being a bit too saturated at the default 50/50 in-game settings. I also noticed when out in the lake of nine the breaks in the clouds exhibit clear haloing/overbloom which eliminates a ton of detail that should be there and is almost certainly not what the developers intended it to look like. Another change I didn't like at default settings was Kratos' armor/weapons in the pause menu being so overly contrasted that is introduced a lot of flickering/aliasing on the brighter highlights.

So I've lowered the in-game HDR brightness/contrast to 35/35 and found that this eliminated all the issues I had just described on my set with no loss to color, contrast, or brightness that I can see which leads me to believe that this is where it should be for an accurate look compared to default. Obviously, not everyone will have the same issue depending on their setup but for those with the same set or with similar issues try it out and hopefully it'll help out.

“We win because we are determined. Disciplined. Not because we feel ourselves superior.”

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 03:48 PM PDT

A week ago I finished AC Valhalla. That is, AC Valhalla decided it was done with me by experiencing a game-breaking bug on the last mission of the game after I put 160 hours into it. I love the AC series, I love vikings. I should have loved that game. And I didn't. So much that I decided to play God of War on GMGOW for the first to remind myself what good combat mechanics feel like, and what is the difference between something that is artificially hard and something that actually tests you.

This is my third play though, and my first time attempting GMGOW. The beginning was a slow slog. Kratos was so under powered for the base enemy encounters that I died dozens of times in some spots, despite the fact that I know this combat system well. There were some areas that made me want to pull my hair out. The draugr pit. The fight with >Modi and Magni<. Pretty much any of the early revenant encounters until I realized you could block their poison attack with your sheild (god damn it, it took me so long to figure that one out).

And now here I am, fighting Sigrun on GMGOW and I've died maybe twenty times. But my pulse isn't racing. I'm not exasperated or frustrated. I haven't broken a controller. I just keep reloading and paying attention to her move set. I know eventually I will get good enough at anticipating her attacks that I can defeat her. But not before I die five or six times *one hit away from beating her*.

But for whatever reason, I don't mind. And when it comes to gaming, I'm not always the most emotionally mature. There have been times where I embarrassed myself by smashing my controller. But I keep thinking about this throw-away line from early in the game. I think it's right after you >defeat the dragon on your first trip up the mountain<.

Atreus says "Feels like it wasn't that long ago that we were hunting deer. Now we've fought dark elves, trolls, ogres, and a dragon! I feel like we could beat anything now!"

Kratos replies "We win because we are determined. Disciplined. Not because we feel ourselves superior."

In the end, this is the theme of this game. The hardest boss in this game is me and my instinct to reflexively rage quit. I've been told to "git gud" before, but I've never been INSPIRED to, purely by the game design.

    This game is a masterpiece.

God of War: Ragnarok is coming...

Get a PS5 and replay this game!!

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 01:32 PM PDT

I know I know. This has been talked about quite a bit and PS5's are very hard to come by. But please.. please keep trying to get a PS5! Replaying this game on a ps5 is a totally different experience. It's almost as if it was made for that console instead of ps4 and they had just been sitting on the new visual patch the whole time. I just got my ps5 a week ago from target. It took me a couple months of trying, but through perseverance, and a bit of luck, I succeeded. Well worth it.

This is coming from someone who has platinum in the game and has beaten it 7-8 times, even on gmgow. Yes, I even killed Sigrun on the hardest difficulty. I'm still enjoying myself as if it was one of my first playthroughs. I think this game will compete with some of the best upcoming next generation games well into the ps5 life cycle. Seriously. DO IT! K sorry love you guys!

After playing GoW 2018, I really have kinda jumped into like the series, but only GoW 3 remastered is available to me on PS4. Is it worth it, in regards to gameplay and story?

Theory : Kratos will die in a game after Ragnarok

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 01:38 AM PDT

I just finished my second run of God Of War. One thing I had missed before was Mimir saying "The world serpent was sent back in time before it's own birth during Ragnarok".

I've read many theories that Kratos will die in gow Ragnarok, but many of them lack completeness. My theory is that Ragnarok will happen at the end or 3/4 ways of the next game. Everyone will be thrown back in time and loose their memory of the future except Odin and Thor who probably have prepared themselves (could be explained by Odin's I want to know everything nature)

I'm saying that people will loose their memory because all the lores in this game are like "Maybe this already happened or will happen".

So Kratos and atreus now exist before Kratos is even born, without their memories (which I think will lay the "Kratos was watching over his past self and atreus complete their journey" claims to rest). When Odin realises this he will probably take atreus under his wing with the name Loki. Meanwhile Kratos being Kratos will probably fight wars or stop unnecessary wars and gain the people's respect to become Tyr, the norse god of war. Since this is the past, the giants are most probably alive then and offer Tyr the special sight Mimir told him about.

After a few years, when "Loki" grows up, he is sent by Odin to kill "Tyr" seeing him as a threat due to his popularity, sharing of worldly knowledge with everyone and closeness with the giants. Loki sends his giant(big, not the race) wolf Fenrir to fight Tyr and this is when Tyr loses one of his arms (looked up norse mythology). Next Loki comes and fights Tyr. Tyr being drained and tired probably couldn't keep up anymore and gets killed by Loki. This would explain the "betrayal" part of the ending mural.

I had another theory but that seems less probable (if the studio decides to keep this series going beyond Norse, as they said they had ideas for 5 more games) : 1. Loki fights Tyr and somehow Tyr manages to slip away or somehow both Loki and Tyr regain their memories and Loki lets Tyr go and then Tyr travels into another land to escape Odin and hides there and Loki will tell Odin that Tyr is "dead". 2. Both regain their memories and go together to fight Odin and kill him and change the predestined path ( I know this is aginst the mural, but given how Greek part of Kratos ended, this seems probable)

Addition : It could be possible the "betreyal" was by someone else but since Kratos was missing a hand, I think it's most probable that he became Tyr and atreus became Loki and betrayed Kratos by attacking him with Fenrir.

    World serpent speaks?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2021 04:47 AM PDT

Is it only me or when kratos and atreus meet the world serpent for the first time serpent says"i know you ghost of sparta come to me" I don't hear the last word. I clearly hear "I know you ghost of" and "come to me" I hear this every time I replay the game help xD
