So about that missing tower.. I bought GOW on its release. Beat it on every difficulty. I noticed a shimmer in the haze looking over “the ledge” a few different times. Only after you jump and find it, did I put 2 and 2 together that it was the tower shimmering. . But. . Photomode+zoom=Tower

How does the NG+ work in this game? Do you just start new on your old game file or does it give you a new game file (like in marvels spiderman) so you can switch between them?

Just curious, Balder was always the god of light, the most beloved and even his son became the god of justices and would help bring the people who survived ragnarök into a new era of peace so I know they have to make x and y to fit into the story, but it doesnt feel like nordic mythology when you do these crazy steps. Even the looks on the gods, Balder had his white hair, freya in this game is some rasta witch doctor who doesnt look like scandinavian at all- and her pets was cats but here its a giant turtle because some people in the art development thought it was "cool". Its just weird. Did anyone from scandinavia work at this game or suggest anything at all?

I would give it 9/10 - great graphics and combat - I just hope people realize this has nothing to do with scandinavian mythology though.

Norse Mythology timeline according to Mimir (mostly).

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 02:17 PM PST

    ***SPOILER ALERT***

    Hi everyone!

This is something I have wanted to put together for a while. Please keep that this work is purely based on what I was able to piece together from the game's content (Mimir's stories & lore markers). I am also unfamiliar with the novel and comic. I would like to apologize if someone else has done this before - I'm completely unaware of such work. Please let me know if I get anything wrong!

    1. Ymir emerged from Ginnungagap and gave birth to various species, including Giants, Aesir, Vanir and Dwarves.

    2. Surtr emerged and he formed the Sun and stars.

    3. A period of primordial peace.

    4. Odin, Villi and Ve slayed Ymir, his blood flooded the world and drowned (almost) all giants. Odin created Midgard out of Ymir's body. Bergelmir and his wife fled the carnage, founded Jotunheim and repopulated giant kind. Odin creates the first (Nordic) humans, Ask and Embla.

    5. Peace resumed; the Giants began migrating to Midgard. Odin met Fjorgyn, and the pair gave birth to Thor. Sometime later, Fjorgyn passed.

    6. Mimir presented Odin with the well of (mushroom) knowledge. Odin gouged out his right eye. Mimir began serving as Odin's advisor and ambassador.

    7. Construction of Tyr's temple, which marked the last collaboration between many races (Aesir, Vanir, Giants, Elves, Dwarfs). Mimir befriended the Giants and they gave him Bifrost eyes. Tyr also received similar eyes around the same time. (We can assume that the city surrounding the temple emerged around the same time but was deserted when the war broke out later.)

    8. Freyr attempted to ease the tension between the Aesir and the Vanir by teaching the Aesir agriculture and crop magic. The Aesir failed and blamed Freyr, captured and tortured him, but he eventually escaped.

    9. Aesir/Vanir War. (The order of the events are quite murky.)

9a - Odin commissioned Brok and Sindri to make weapons to fight the war, among them Mjolnir. Odin gave Mjolnir to Thor.

9b - Odin met Hrungnir and brought him to Asgard. The Aesir proceeded to make fun of the Giant. Thor smashed Hrungnir's head with Mjolnir but was crushed by the Giant's body. Modi and Magni rescued their father, but Magni got most of the credit.

9c - Magni and Modi grew up and participated in the war. They killed Nerthus (mother of Freya and Freyr) in the Mountain, the Giants living there witnessed the event.

9d - The Aesir slandered Starkadr. The armies of Gods and men surrounded him, so the Giant surrendered. Thor took the opportunity and butchered the unarmed Giant. (It's hard to assign a time for this event, but Thor was depicted to have Mjolnir in the mural so it must be early on during the war but before the genocide.)

9e - The (young) Serpent and Wolves arrived via time travel. Thor attacked the Serpent but could not defeat it. Odin captured Fenrir and held him with Brok and Sindri's magical chain. Odin then raised the pups Skoll and Hati in Asgard and set them out to chase the Sun and the Moon.

9f - Odin convinced Tyr to broker an alliance between Asgard and Jotunheim to fight the Vanir. The Giants exposed Odin and banished him. Odin cut Thor loose to slaughter Giants in Midgard (Thor's first rampage). The surviving Giants all fled Midgard to Jotunheim. Tyr helped the Giants retreat and hid the Jotunheim tower in the Realm between Realms. The World Serpent and Laufey were present during these events. Thamur started building the wall of Jotunheim. Laufey sought Brok and Sindri and asked them to make her a weapon to counter-balance Mjolnir.

    1. Odin and Freya's marriage. Peace re-established. Freya became queen of the Valkyries and taught Odin Vanir magic.

10a - Birth of Baldur. The runes foretold a needless death and Freya became fearful for her son.

    1. Thamur and his son, Hrimthur, had an argument. Thamur struck his son and Hrimthur ran to Midgard. Thamur wandered Midgard looking for his son but was found and killed by Thor. Thamur's body destroyed a village worshiping Njordr and his dying breath froze everything.

    2. Hrimthur plotted his revenge. He offered to build the Asgard's wall, completed it and whispered the secret weakness to Freya.

    3. Thrym stole Mjolnir and asked for Freya in return. Freya and Thor travelled to Jotunheim. Thor reclaimed his hammer and went berserk (Thor's second rampage). Freya casted both out of Jotunheim. Odin was outraged. This led to Odin and Freya having a fight and Freya broke off the marriage. Odin robbed Freya's of her wings, confined her in Midgard with magic. (The game does not connect the story of Thrym to Freya's banishment, but they are likely related.)

    4. Odin killed Tyr and imprisoned Mimir.

    5. Odin used a spell to trap the Valkyries in physical bodies to prevent them from trafficking the souls of the dead. [Odin wanted to flood Midgard with Draugr & Hel-Walkers to force the Guardian, Faye, out of hiding]. Sigrun locked her sisters away in Vaults so they can do no harm. Sigrun visited Mimir one last time before succumbing to the same spell.

    6. Baldur found his mother in Midgard and asked her to take the spell off. When she refused, he attempted to kill her but could not bring himself to do it. (I put this here because Freya was seen without her wings in Baldur's Hel vision.)

    7. Kratos met Faye and they settled down together and produced a son, Loki/Atreus.

    8. Odin lied to Baldur that the Giants' magic might be able to break his spell. Baldur began tracking Faye.

    9. Faye passed away. Kratos chopped the tree. Baldur found them and the events of God of War played out.

19a - Kratos killed Magni and Atreus later killed Modi. These events contradict the prophecy (not mentioned in the game) that Magni and Modi will survive Ragnarok.

19b - Kratos killed Baldur, triggered Fimbulwinter.

Here are some of the theories I have come up with:

    - Surtr and Ymir were close, i.e. they likely shared a brotherly relationship. Surtr swore vengeance on the Aesir because of Ymir's killing and the drowning of the jotnar, not just because of a prophecy that he blindly followed.

    - Fjorgyn and Odin met before the killing of Ymir; this makes Fjorgyn a pre-flood, pre-Bergelmir and pre-Jotunheim Giantess, since most of Bergelmir's descendants likely harbor hatred against the Aesir gods and will not fall in love with Odin.

    - Fjorgyn likely foresaw Ragnarok and shared this information with Odin. But then Odin became increasingly paranoid about Giants, which culminated in the killing of Ymir and most of Ymir-born Giants. Thor likely killed Fjorgyn at Odin's command around this time.

    - Mimir's origin is Celtic. This is more certain than just a theory, but it's not been confirmed yet.

    - Odin used Vanir magic to attack and provoke the Vanir after the marriage's fallout. This made the Vanir believe Freya betrayed them.

    - Thor's killing spree at Thrym's feast likely caused the Giants' apparent extinction. In fact, the bodies we saw in Jotunheim are the direct result of Thor's 2nd rampage.

    - Loki/Atreus will travel through time and bring the remaining Giants to the future to fight in Ragnarok. This is another theory for their absence from Jotunheim, which many have stated before, I just want to re-iterate it here.

    - The three dragons Kratos and Atreus freed in the game were Dwarves that had been turned one way or the other. My theory is that all dragons were dwarves once. The Ymir mural depicted "snakes that turned into dwarves", so it could be they came out of Ymir as wyrms/dragons, but for some reason turned into (or learned to change into) Dwarves, or they were shapeshifters to begin with. Dwarves of later generation either forgot about this, or they tried to conceal it. Mimir suggested that Fafnir might have stolen the wrong trinket from a Vanir Goddess, which turned him into a dragon. I think it was his greed that awakened his dormant dragon heritage which turned him into a dragon. This would also explain why Hraezlyr was able to see Sindri through his "Realm between Realms" travel. (Also the fact that she resided in the Mountain that the Dwarves used to occupy is a hint that she was once a Dwarf too.)

Events that cannot be assigned to the timeline:

    - Odin hanged and bled himself on a branch of the world tree in his quest for knowledge.

    - The stories of Skadi and Groa. These likely occured after Fjorgyn's passing and before the Thor's Jotnar genocide, since the relationship between the Giants and the Aesir seemed to be tense but still in relatively good terms.

    GOW5 idea

    Posted: 18 Jan 2020 06:01 AM PST

This is probably not even close, but it would be cool if it turned out this way. So, the game most likely start's where GOW4 ended with Thor standing outside Kratos home right? What if Thor is there to kidnap Loki to take him back to Asgard? In Norse mythology, Loki lives in Asgard and became blood brothers with Odin when they both consume a drink mixed of their blood and beer. He is sometimes referred to as a friend of Thor. Odin is obviously aware of Kratos and must realise he is a god by now, meaning his son is too. Odin and Thor could try and groom Atreus as his powers grew, while Kratos fights his way through the realms in an attempt to reach Asgard and save his son from becoming evil. Maybe even a battle between Loki and Kratos where Loki gains the upper hand and decides to spare his father and turn on Odin and Thor instead.

Probably won't play out this way but to me it seems interesting. The theories that time travel will play a big part are more likely but it's still fun to guess. Would like to hear what others think will happen or are hoping to see in the next game...
